Mother’s Day gifts that won’t break the bank
Mother’s Day is a time to love and appreciate your mom for all that she’s done for you. But that love and appreciation doesn’t have to be costly. In fact, many of the most meaningful gifts you can give your mom cost you nothing more than time.
Here are some of our favourite gift ideas to make mom feel special this Mother’s Day while sticking to a budget:
A bouquet of flowers will always be appreciated, but if your mom is a gardener you can take it a step further. Buy her a new plant for her garden, or a spring planter that she can put outside on the porch or deck. A plant is long-lasting and budget-friendly gift as it costs about the same amount of money as a bouquet of flowers (maybe even less!), but it can last her for months or years instead of just a few days or a week.
Make her dinner
There’s nothing any mom would love more than a night off. In fact, she’ll probably be so appreciative of you offering to make her dinner that she won’t care what you make. If you have a special dish, make it for her, and if not something simple like some BBQ or a pasta dish will still be a hit. Making her dinner will also save you the money of going out to eat, and maybe with that savings you can also grab her a nice dessert to enjoy with her meal.
Give her a day off
A day or night off can be one of the best gifts for moms, and it costs you nothing! Do some chores for your mom, whether it’s cleaning out her garden, scrubbing the kitchen, or vacuuming the house. Let her have some me-time, and get a few things done around the house for her so she can relax.
Every mom will tell you that pictures and memories of her kids are something she will treasure. Depending on your budget, there are a few ways you can make special photos into a gift: set up a family photo shoot to capture new memories, or simply buy a frame and frame some older photos for her to hang in her home or office.
Have the kids make her something
Whether they’re her kids or her grandkids, moms love to receive homemade gifts from the kids in their lives. A card or a simple craft will truly light up her Mother’s Day. If you’re looking for ideas, Pinterest is a great place to look for artistic inspiration.
Some of our favourites that are at or under the $10 mark are:
• A lavender sugar scrub for some relaxing spa-time.
• An adorable photo bookmark for the mom who’s a bookworm.
• Or a DIY planter for the mom with a greenthumb.
Most of all, on Mother’s Day, moms just want to spend time with their families and the people they love. So even if you aren’t able to buy her anything, you can still make sure your mom feels loved by calling her, or going over for a visit.
